This course aims to give students a critical perspective on the media, which has become a natural part of our daily lives. Within the scope of the course, after providing a theoretical background based on concepts such as sociological thinking, critical media literacy, and media theories, several media content that we encounter in daily lives is discussed and analyzed in a social and cultural context.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to;
  1. criticise the cultural effects of media in the daily life.
  2. analyze the social reception and interpretation processes of various media contents
  3. consider and examine media contents in the cultural and social context
  4. analyze and criticise the representation of women, men, LGBTQ, minorities... etc. in media
  5. comprehend media usage motivations and patterns of society in the cultural and social context
