This course presents an overview of the scheduling problems and to discuss basic formulation and problem solution techniques in various machine environments such as single machine, parallel machines, flowshops and jobshops.
Recent topics and developments along with career development after graduation in Industrial Engineering will be covered in presentations by students and guest speakers. Field specific and career development related contemporary issues will be covered.
This course examines concepts, tools and methods of financial engineering. Various basic financial instruments will be discussed such as fixed income securities, foreign exchange markets and equities. Various derivative products will be discussed, including forwards, futures, swaps and options. Emphasis will be given to their pricing and they can be used for risk management purposes. In addition, some basic computational techniques for the financial engineering problems using Excel will be implemented.
This course aims to cover fundamentals of inventory theory, and introduce recent issues and trends in inventory planning and control. The topics covered in this course are types of inventory, costs associated with inventory, forecasting techniques, Economic Order Quantity, safety stocks, lead time, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), MRP-II, Just in Time.
This is the first part of a year-long project divided into two semesters. The overall project covers the design process from customer request through the final output. In addition to basic requirements of a design process such as proposal development, customer specifications, design stages, and reporting, focus is also on systems approach, application of industrial engineering techniques to complex problems and ethical considerations. This particular course covers the preparation of students for the project and the conceptual design phase.
This is the second part of a year-long project divided into two semesters. The overall project covers the design process from customer request through the final output. In addition to the basic requirements of a design process such as proposal development, customer specifications, design stages, and reporting, focus is also on systems approach, application of industrial engineering techniques to complex problems and ethical considerations. This particular course covers the preliminary and detailed design phases of the projects. Students must draw on engineering skills, and apply these skills to their work throughout the project. Decision making and dealing with consequences are crucial parts of the focus of the project.
This course serves as an introduction to the field of engineering. The course introduces students to the profession, including different disciplines in the field. Discussions of career possibilities are presented, understanding of the interrelation of science, technology, the environment and biology in an engineering context, and engineering fundamentals such as problem-solving techniques and engineering design methodology are introduced. In addition, the ethical and societal responsibility of engineers will be emphasized.
This course discusses ethical issues in the practice of engineering and science. Code of ethics for engineers, professional liability to clients, employers, and society, distinction of responsibility and accountability, legal obligations, and regulatory areas of concern to engineers, such as labor, safety and the environment, are among the topics examined. Case studies will be analyzed to understand concrete problems and their consequences.
This course provides engineering students basic knowledge of micro and macro economics and also introduces the fundamental concepts of economic analysis for engineering and managerial decision making. In economics review, topics such as market economies, demand, supply, national income, employment, unemployment, inflation and economic growth are discussed. In economic analysis, topics such as time value of money, basic interest formulas, annual cost comparisons and present value analysis constitute the main content.
